Snowy Cardinal Tag

For those of you still snowed under in the country, I wanted to share a project from a recent design challenge for The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie.  I love cardinals and all of their background stories so I focused on them for inspiration on this project.

We started with Tim Holtz's Thickboard tag.  I painted all the edges with the red acrylic paint to match the cardinals of course.

The I used an old school decoupage technique of using only the very top layer of a beautifully printed paper napkin.  This time I used Dina Wakely's clear gesso under and over top of the napkin with a little extra along the sides to seal it in.

Then I used the beautiful Peace and Joy papers from Kaisercraft for the background and embellishment pieces.  I fussy cut out flowers, greenery and of course the majestic cardinals as well as a tag and sentiment banner.

I applied a round wood circle to the bottom to give the cardinals something to perch on and then built up the embellishments in layers.

I dusted all of the embellishments and birds in snow that was created from chunky crystal glitter and Art glitter glue.  I topped of the tag with a beautiful buffalo plaid ribbon.

I hope these sweet snowy cardinals bring you joy today.

One Love,
Annette

A crazy little thing called love

"A crazy little thing called love"

I wanted to share some Valentine inspiration with you today.  The February Designer Challenge for The Crafty Scrapper revolved around some great Tim Holtz products, like the frames, old portrait photos and the wonderful shadow box all with a Valentine theme.

I started with Jillibean wood platform that was whitewashed in grey and white. I layered on a 12x12 thin wood sheet that had heart shapes cut out into it. I cut some of the hearts apart from the rest of the sheet and washed those in a combo of grey, white, and pink paint. Then I topped it off with the Tim Holtz shadow box, frames and vintage photos also all washed with paint.

I added torn strips of the Prima Rose Quartz paper collection and rolled flowers made from the paper. The finishing touches were a stamped sentiment and rubbing of all the edges in a rose quartz wax to match the copper fairy placed inside the shadow box.

I hope this may inspire you to create something wonderful for your Valentine.

Happy crafting - One Love
