Nursery Shadow Box Project

"How do you get started on a new project?"  I hear this question quite a bit and many times, for me, it starts with a sketch.  I like to scratch down on paper some of the rough thoughts swirling around in my brain to see what they will actually look like when put all together.  That is exactly how this baby shower project started - with a sketch!

When I felt confident that some of my ideas might work, I went out and sourced some of the specific things I knew I wanted to incorporate in the project, like the shadow box.

This beauty actually opened from the front so it will be so easy for the new parents to add their pictures and mementos after the baby's arrival rather than having to take the back off and wrestle with all those staples, etc.  The bard wood exterior and burlap background fit right into the theme of the nursery of "Outdoors All Boy".

Next I found the papers and some 3D elements that would look great in this theme.   Time to ink all the edges to distress them.

The finished product has multiple levels of depth in the shadow box and lots of space for pictures and ephemera from the big event.  Here are some close ups.

I think the finished project turned out super cute.  Next time try a sketch!  Hope the new parents to be LOVE IT too!

Happy Crafting!
